Employee of a shooting range in Secaucus allegedly aimed a gun at customers

SECAUCUS, NJ – A man who works as an employee at the Long Shot shooting range in Secaucus is accused of pointing a gun at a customer after the two got into an argument.

This happened last Saturday evening, August 17, Secaucus police said.

The employee is Jonathan Rojas, 35, of Jersey City. He works as a range safety officer at Long Shot and has a firearms permit, police said.

According to police, he got into an argument with a customer on Saturday evening because the customer had violated the shooting range rules. The police did not say how this happened.

“At the time of the altercation, the customer was unarmed, no longer had access to a firearm, and was no longer in the line of fire,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller.

As the argument between the two men continued, Rojas allegedly pulled out his gun and pointed it at the unarmed customer.

It was the customer who called 911, and Secaucus police responded to the shooting at 375 County Avenue at 9:14 p.m. Saturday and took Rojas into custody. Rojas was charged with aggravated assault. [2C:12-1B(4)]illegal possession of weapons [2C:39-4A(1)] and unjustified display of a handgun [2C:58-4.4A(5)].

When Patch called Long Shot on Monday to ask if they had comment or additional information, an employee hung up the phone when we identified ourselves as reporters.

A warrant was issued for Rojas' arrest and he was subsequently taken to the Hudson County Jail.
