Attempted murder charges filed in Hornell shooting on Rockwell Street

A Maple City resident is charged with attempted murder and other serious crimes in connection with a shooting on Rockwell Street Saturday night.

Police said Michael E. Bloom, 33, of 128 River Street, Hornell, was arrested following the investigation and charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, first-degree criminal contempt, reckless endangerment and possession of a weapon.

Hornell police said they responded to the shooting shortly after 10 p.m. An investigation revealed that three or four small-caliber shots were fired from a vehicle parked on Hart Street toward the rear of a residence on Rockwell Street.

According to police, the shots were fired at a person on the back porch of the residence.

According to authorities, no one was injured.

A parked car was struck and damaged, police said, and witnesses said the vehicle involved in the shooting fled the scene.

Bloom was tracked down and taken into custody without incident, police said.

The New York State Police helped secure the scene and the Steuben County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.

Bloom was reportedly being held in Steuben County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

Hornell police said the case remains under investigation.
