Man arrested after woman killed and two others seriously injured in 'tragic' stabbings in Longsight

A man has been arrested after a woman was killed and two others seriously injured in “tragic” stabbings in Longsight last night.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that it was informed at around 11.20pm last night (Sunday 18 August) following numerous calls from the public that three people had been stabbed at a property on Barnard Road in the Gorton area of ​​the city, near Longsight.

When police and accompanying Emergency services When officers arrived at the scene, they found that a 17-year-old girl, a 64-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman had all suffered “serious stab wounds” – the latter unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The other two are still in hospital and their injuries “are currently considered life-threatening,” according to GMP.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, GMP confirmed, and he was taken into custody before being questioned by detectives.

The crime scene remains on site as detectives continue their investigation. They are currently interviewing witnesses to establish all the circumstances of the incident. However, initial indications suggest that the victims knew the suspect. The case is therefore being treated as an “isolated incident”.

Detective Superintendent Toby Facey said he understood that local residents were “rightly shocked and concerned” after waking up this morning to hear the tragic news. However, “within minutes” of calls from the public, officers were on the scene and arrested the man.

“The investigation has been launched and we are still at a very early stage of our enquiries,” DS Facey said. “We had detectives on site working through the night to establish what happened and why.”

“Local officers will remain in the area investigating and there will be increased high-visibility patrols, so if you have any concerns please speak to them.”

A new documentary examining the murders of Ashley Dale and Olivia Pratt-Korbel will air on Channel 4 tonight.

The two were shot in their homes in two separate incidents related to gang feuds. Neither was the intended target.

Ashley was 28 years old and Olivia just nine years old.

Channel 4 is currently preparing to broadcast a new four-part documentary series: “Merseyside Detectives: The Murders of Ashley and Olivia”.

And ahead of the premiere of the first episode, Merseyside Police issued a statement warning viewers that the show will be “tough and emotional”.
