19-year-old dies in shooting in Riverton

RIVERTON, Utah – Police are investigating an overnight shooting in Riverton that left a 19-year-old man dead.

Riverton police initially responded to a call reporting shots fired late Sunday evening.

Officers found a 19-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

“Unusual” details in the Riverton shooting

According to Riverton Police Department's Josh Lee, the man was wearing a Kevlar vest and was carrying a pistol and a machete.

“This is highly unusual. I personally have never experienced this before, that someone – I mean, they come to have some kind of confrontation,” Lee said.

Police said the 19-year-old was pronounced dead in hospital. Further information about his identity will not be released until the family has been notified.

Officers also found a jacket with an identification card that led them to an address in Orem, where they took a 20-year-old and a 24-year-old into custody for questioning.

Authorities have not filed charges.
