Convicted murderer arrested on drug charges in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Arkansas (KAIT) – A convicted murderer on parole is back behind bars after drug agents say they caught him dealing marijuana in a Jonesboro apartment.

On Monday, August 19, Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found there was probable cause to charge 31-year-old Terrance Jamal Mays with the following:

  • Simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony
  • Possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class B felony
  • Possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose of delivery, a Class C felony
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia, a class D felony

On August 16, agents with the Second Judicial Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on a residence in the 3000 block of Pinefield Cove.

According to the affidavit, agents found “several jars of marijuana” weighing a total of about 15 pounds. They also reported finding a digital scale with marijuana residue on it and a safe containing $11,374 in cash and a loaded Glock .22 pistol.

Court documents say agents “found mail and a lease with Mays' name and personal information.”

Mays is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center on $250,000 cash or surety bail pending arraignment on September 27.

According to the affidavit, Mays is a convicted felon.

In 2014, he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and assault in connection with the 2012 shooting death of Forrest City resident Dominique Tobar.

He was sentenced to 15 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, with credit for 592 days served in prison. He was released on parole in February 2021.
