Jujutsu Kaisen: The Fate of Gojo's Body, Explained

The fate of Gojo's body is still a big mystery. Is it still possible for Gojo to make a comeback in JJK?

Fans got to see Megumi's comeback in this chapter, albeit not fully. From here on out, things get even more exciting regarding Megumi's character, and fans can't wait to find out what happens next.

How Sukuna destroyed Megumi's willpower

Sukuna killed almost everyone Megumi loved

Sukuna destroyed Megumi's willpower pretty early on in the Culling Game Arc. After switching places with Megumi, he knew the body was easier to control than Yuji's. Sukuna still faced Megumi's resistance, which is why he took the Soul Bath and essentially suppressed his soul forever. The death of Tsumiki further traumatized Megumi and caused him to lose his willpower. At this point, Megumi had nothing left to fight for and he simply succumbed to the King of Curses. Since then, the Wizards have tried their best to get Megumi back, and this has become one of the major plot points in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. Fans have absolutely loved every development in rescuing Megumi, from the fight between Gojo and Sukuna, which excited her to no end and remains the best fight in the entire series, to Yuji's plea for a friend to return. Everything was full of suspense from top to bottom, and fans were thrilled that the author had taken such an exciting approach to Megumi.

The main burden of the adaptation was borne by Megumi Fushiguro’s soul! – Sukuna

Of course, this approach had its downsides. The fact that Megumi was cut out for a considerable portion of the story meant that his development was significantly hampered. Furthermore, the further development of his character arc was also thwarted to a certain extent, and while it would have been fine if JJK had continued for longer and this hadn't been the final arc, the fact that the series will be concluded in a few chapters simply means that Megumi will most likely get enough time to develop further as a character, and that is certainly the downside of this approach.

Megumi's Awakening in Jujutsu Kaisen

Megumi Fushiguro recently fought back against Sukuna

In JJK In Chapter 266, fans were finally supposed to see Megumi Fushiguro awaken. This came as no surprise to fans. Yuji has been trying tirelessly to get Megumi to awaken. His whole fight here against Sukuna is to save his girlfriend. Yuji has tried before and failed. Even in Yuta's domain, Yuji almost managed to save Megumi, but she rejected his help, meaning there was absolutely nothing Yuji could have done about it.

Now, however, things are different. Yuji can strike Sukuna's soul with powerful attacks. The Soul Dismantle was absolutely brutal and although it left no external wounds, the damage it did to the soul was significant. It weakened Sukuna's control over Megumi's soul and ensured that he could not prevent Megumi from waking up. He even threw up three fingers, but later had to consume them again to maintain control.

It will be lonely without you, Fushiguro! – Yuji

However, it cannot be denied that his control over Megumi is weakening over time, and that is precisely why Megumi has now begun to fight back. JJK Chapter 266: Yuji had a conversation with Megumi. In this conversation, he told Megumi that he couldn't ask him to stay alive because he understood what trauma does to people. However, he could only say that she would be lonely without him.

Jujutsu Kaisen: How close is the end of the manga, explained

JJK is currently in its final story arc. The fall of Sukuna could mean the end of this manga.

Upon hearing these words, Megumi decided to fight back because he recognizes the value of a true friend and knows that the future is not as bleak as he thought. Megumi knows that the world still needs someone to make it a better place. Megumi decided to fight back against Sukuna relentlessly, and this allowed Yuji to land a powerful blow on him as well. Of course, the matter is far from decided. The battle against Sukuna continues, and Yuji will definitely need Megumi's help if he wants to permanently defeat the King of Curses. Hopefully, Megumi can provide Yuji with the help he needs soon.

How Yuji and Megumi will defeat Sukuna

Yuji and Megumi will soon work together against Sukuna

Sukuna and Yuji in Jujutsu Kaisen JJK 266

Yuji and Megumi will most likely face off against Sukuna in the coming chapters. With Sukuna, the 10 Shadow Technique stops working and Mahoraga is destroyed. However, in JJK Chapter 266, it was clearly seen that Megumi has access to the 10 Shadow Technique. Due to his shadow, Sukuna's leg sank and Yuji was able to land a barrage of powerful blows on him. Yuji even forced Sukuna to refill his burned out cursed technique and reopen his domain, and that certainly makes things that much more difficult for the King of Curses.

More importantly, however, the more Yuji beats Sukuna, the weaker his control over Megumi will become. Eventually, Megumi will break free from his clutches and become a separate personality ready to fight back. This is where the issue of fusion may come up, though. Sukuna could trigger fusion if he feels like he's losing, and when that happens, it's possible he could separate from Megumi and become a completely different being. When that happens, it's up to Yuji and Megumi to fight back against this monstrous threat.

Of course, it won't be easy for them to pull this off, but it's important that the two get to shine together in the very last act of JJK before the series officially comes to an end. Now that it's officially confirmed that the series has reached its climax, fans know for sure that characters like Megumi and Yuji deserve all the attention they can get.

All fans have to do is sit back and wait for the JJK chapters in the coming weeks and months and hope that the story offers a fitting conclusion to the main characters. With that said, Jujutsu Kaisen will most likely end soon and fans can only hope that the conclusion lives up to expectations.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. Fans can read the series officially and for free on Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 267, is set for August 25, 2024.
