Accident involving stolen car paralyzes traffic on SR-201

WEST VALLEY CITY – An accident involving a stolen car caused traffic delays on State Route 201 and Bangerter Highway on Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed to KSL on the scene that several police agencies were involved in the accident, but did not provide any information on how.

Utah Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed westbound traffic at a standstill for about 10 minutes before police began reopening the roadway to traffic.

On Monday evening, Detective Rebecca Mallory of the Unified Police said West Jordan Police requested Unified Police's assistance in locating the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located in the area of ​​1100 E. 7200 South.

When the vehicle was located, Mallory said police did not pursue it but instead followed it from a distance until it was studded with nails.

The westbound vehicle struck the median. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Mallory said a 45-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and will be taken to jail upon her release.

The circumstances that led to the theft of the vehicle are unclear.
