Arrest in connection with a car break-in on E. Tahquitz Canyon Way –

Palm Springs, California

At approximately 12:42 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Tahquitz Canyon Way on a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, security personnel alerted officers to suspect Anthony Sims, who fled west on foot when he was told to stop.

The suspect attempted to hide in some bushes on the property, but was quickly arrested after officers blocked his escape route. It was discovered that Sims had broken into two vehicles using a rock and a tire iron. The tire iron, which came from the trunk of one of the vehicles, was found near the hiding place where Sims had attempted to hide.

Further investigation revealed that Sims was out on bail in two separate cases. One case involved a violation of Penal Code Section 261, which is charged with rape, and the other involved a violation of Section 148(a)(1), which involves resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer. Although Sims was out on bail in these cases, he was arrested while committing additional crimes.

Sims was arrested at the scene for several violations, including:

• 459 PC: Burglary

• 148(a)(1) PC: Resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer

• 594(b)(1) PC: Vandalism

• 12022.1(b) PC: Committing a crime while on bail

Sims was taken to the John Benoit Detention Center, where his bail was set at $250,000.

This incident is intended to remind the public to always take precautions to prevent car thefts. Please consider the following tips:

• Don't leave valuables out in the open: Items like electronics, bags, and even loose change can attract thieves. If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, store them safely in the trunk or glove compartment.

• Lock your vehicle: Make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked before leaving your vehicle unattended.

• Park in well-lit areas: Whenever possible, park in areas that are well-lit and visible to others.

• Be aware of your surroundings: Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

By taking these simple precautions, you can protect your property and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of car theft.
