Online users react to 'disgusting' Buzzfeed claim that ramen omelette stands are part of Malaysian street food

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 – A recent Instagram reel did not exactly attract much attention from local online users, sparking comments such as “what the hell” and “gross”.

On @buzzfeedtasty (see video below), the chef makes a ramen omelette. She also claims that the dish is offered as a “popular street food” in Malaysia and that it “attracts long queues.”

“Ramen omelette stall in Malaysia is a popular street food known for its unique fusion of Japanese and Malaysian flavours.

“It serves delicious ramen noodles wrapped in a fluffy omelette. The result is a hearty and filling meal that is popular with locals and tourists alike!

“There are often long lines at the cart, so instead of waiting there, come by and try this delicious version at home!” was the caption of the post.

The post even includes a recipe with ingredients for one serving. Upon closer inspection, the recipe may be a reference to Murtabak Maggi.

It is not clear where the video was filmed, but the chef has stated that she was unable to travel to Malaysia to try the dish.

Since its release, the video has received 128,000 likes and over 600 comments, many of which have criticized or questioned its existence. The Buzzfeedtasty account has nearly 46 million followers.

“An Asian stoner’s dream,” said @hornloadedboogie.

“I did something similar in prison. It was really good,” joked another.

“What part of Malaysia did you find this? I've never seen this anywhere before,” posted @roastergram.
