Indiana State Police investigating inmate death at Allen County Jail – Mercer County Outlook

(Fort Wayne, IN) (19.8.24) – On Friday, August 16, 2024, shortly before 5:00 a.m., the Allen County Sheriff requested an Indiana State Police detective respond to the Allen County Jail regarding the death of an inmate. The inmate is to be identified as Paul Green, age 36, of Fort Wayne, IN.

The ISP investigation revealed that Green had been incarcerated at the prison since August 8, 2024. He was housed in cell block R3 and was on a medical watch list. A review of prison observation logs and videos showed that prison staff checked on Green at 1:50 a.m. that same morning and he was responsive. Motion-activated cameras in cell R3 showed Green walking around his cell from 2:30 a.m. to 2:38 a.m. When prison staff checked on Green at 2:50 a.m., he was found unconscious in his cell. Prison staff immediately called the prison nurse and began CPR on Green at 2:53 a.m. Paramedics arrived at the prison at 3:05 a.m. Green was taken by ambulance from the prison to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On August 16, 2024, an autopsy was performed on Green's body at the Northeast Forensic Center. After the autopsy, ISP detectives were informed that the autopsy revealed that Paul Green had died from medical issues related to an infection in his intestines.
