Central States Fair warns about counterfeit tickets

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – If you’re looking forward to visiting the Central States Fair and are considering buying your tickets online, you may want to think again.

The fair put a message out on Facebook Saturday warning fairgoers of counterfeit tickets and wristbands that have been sold on the social media site.

Ron Jeffries, General Manager of Central States Fair, said this happens at every event whether that’s at the fair, the Monument, or another venue, and said that going to the fair’s official website is the best way to purchase tickets online.

“There’s really no way for us to go out and track down every website and post that this is a fake because they block your post anyway. So, just don’t buy your tickets off of Facebook, don’t buy your carnival wristbands off of Facebook. They aren’t official and we can’t honor them, obviously,” Jeffries said.

Jeffries added that wristbands to the carnival portion of the fair are placed on the fairgoer’s wrist at the time of purchase so there is no way to purchase them online and the fair does not sell tickets on Facebook.

The best way to guarantee your ticket is real is by purchasing yourself on the Central States Fair website or buying in person.
