Tragic triple stabbing attack claims life of local woman

A tragic incident occurred in Gorton, Manchester, late on Sunday evening, in which one woman was fatally stabbed and two others sustained life-threatening injuries. The deceased, identified locally as Alberta Obinim, 43, died at the scene on Barnard Road following the attack.

The horrific incident occurred at around 11.20pm BST and required immediate police intervention. A 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man have both been taken to hospital and are currently fighting for their lives, according to Greater Manchester Police.

Authorities arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of murder and confirmed he was known to the victims involved. Police believe the case may be related to a domestic dispute.

Alberta's family and friends have begun sending heartfelt tributes. Family friend Ibrahim Abu, described as someone who brought joy and kindness, highlighted her generosity, saying, “She was always laughing.”

The close-knit Ghanaian community in which Alberta was active is devastated. Derrick Wiafe, another friend, called her a “powerful and inspirational woman,” reiterating the community's admiration for her.

Colleagues at her workplace, Chrysalis Care, also expressed their shock at Alberta's death. One colleague recalled how much joy she brought to those around her, calling her “wonderful” and lamenting the unexpected loss.

News of the attack spread quickly throughout the area, leaving many struggling to process the sudden violence. Many locals expressed similar feelings of disbelief and struggled to reconcile the tragic incident with their peaceful neighborhood.

Police say there will be increased patrols to support the shaken community as investigations continue. Detective Superintendent Toby Facey stressed the need for the public's co-operation and urged witnesses to come forward and assist the investigation.

Community members have gathered to offer support and share memories of Alberta. Friends and relatives are holding impromptu gatherings, lighting candles and leaving flowers at the scene to honour her memory.
