Former Oxnard man sentenced to five years in federal prison

A former Oxnard resident was sentenced Wednesday to five years in federal prison for drug offenses in western Pennsylvania.

Christopher Andrew Salgado, 24, was part of a ring of cocaine suppliers who shipped the drug from California to Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and later to West Virginia over a six-month period in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Justice's Western District of Pennsylvania. Aliquippa is a small town about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Salgado pleaded guilty on April 10 to conspiracy to distribute and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, the press release said.

Investigators with the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force found that the cocaine was shipped from California to Pennsylvania and later to West Virginia, where Salagado received the packages, the Justice Department news release said. He drove the cocaine to Pittsburgh International Airport, where he picked up another man and took it to the residence of a third man in Aliquippa. All three men were co-defendants in the case.

After one drive, investigators followed Salgado as he discarded a box in the trash at a fast-food restaurant. They found the shipping label to Salgado's West Virginia residence and determined that the box contained cocaine.

Later, investigators seized a shipment of cocaine on the way to Salgado and delivered it themselves. They brought a search warrant with them. In addition to the cocaine in the package, investigators found another 2 kilograms of cocaine in the apartment, a 9 mm pistol, gun magazines, a box of ammunition and a digital scale.

The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the press release said.
