McAllen Rowe football player injured

McAllen Rowe student and football player Aidan de la Cruz was injured in an accident that the McAllen School District calls tragic.

Mark May, spokesman for McLane ISD, wrote to RGVSports.com at 4:20 p.m., “We are still waiting for permission from the family to say anything publicly. As soon as we get permission, we will let you know.”

When May was later asked about Cruz's condition, she replied, “Not at the moment, you can contact the McAllen police.”

May said in a message that the prayer meeting scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. had been canceled.

In honor of the family, tonight's Mass is canceled. It will not be held tonight, but if there is a prayer later, I will let you know.

Counselors will be present at the Nikki Row campus on the first day of school on Monday, the spokesman said.

He referred all further questions to the McAllen Police Department.

De la Cruz is under contract for three years and is one of Rowe's top returning senior starters in 2024. As a junior, he was named a First Team All-District 15-5 A DI selection last season when he recorded 82 total tackles and five tackles-for-loss in 10 games for the team.
