Man allegedly stabbed brother repeatedly in Adelanto

A San Diego County man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after authorities said he repeatedly stabbed his brother in Adelanto early Monday.

A witness called 911 around 1:15 a.m. to report a disturbance in the 10600 block of Chesterfield Street, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.

“According to the caller, they could hear people screaming in the apartment and believed someone needed help,” the agency said in a written statement.

The officers found a 20-year-old man with numerous stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. There was no current information on his condition.

“During the investigation, officers learned that the victim had been stabbed by his brother, Reymundo Cota, during a family dispute,” the statement said.

Cota, described as a 25-year-old Spring Valley resident, was arrested at the scene and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, county booking records show.

While investigating the alleged attack, officers noticed the house was being used as an illegal marijuana farm, officials said. Electricity was being stolen directly from the grid and numerous safety violations were found.

“Three young children lived in the home with direct access to the marijuana grow,” the sheriff's statement said. “The children were placed in the custody of the (San Bernardino County) Child Protective Services.”

The investigation was still ongoing.

Cota's bail was set at $1 million pending his initial appearance in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
