The Fredonia Police Department is looking for more space in the community center.

A shooting continues in Chautauqua County.

On Monday around 8:15 p.m., a gunshot wound was reported on the second floor of the Econo Lodge on Route 60, just inside the village of Fredonia. Both the Dunkirk and Fredonia fire departments and police officers responded to the scene.

Scan reports indicated that officers knew who the suspect in the shooting was, but it is unclear if they knew where the person was.

This is the fifth shooting incident in the last five days. One occurred in Dunkirk on Wednesday, and three incidents were reported in Jamestown on Friday and Saturday that resulted in one person being killed.

Before the latest death, there were five murders in the county by the beginning of August – the highest number in recent years.
