8-year-old boy returns home injured after shooting on Detroit's east side

DETROIT (WXYZ) — An 8-year-old boy grazed by a bullet in an alleged drive-by shooting on Detroit's east side Monday morning is now resting at home, his family told 7 News Detroit.

According to police, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. at a home in the 16,000 block of Fairmount Drive.

Officers said they found the boy injured when they arrived. The boy had reportedly been sleeping in the living room of the home when police believe a drive-by shooting occurred.

“This is not okay, these are small children,” said the victim’s aunt.

The family told us that Isiah is now home from the hospital and is recovering.

“If he had been lying at a different angle or in a different position, an inch higher, it would have gone into his head and he would no longer be here with us,” said one of his aunts.

Detroit Police Chief James White held a press conference early Monday morning to discuss the shooting.

Police are looking for multiple shooters, according to Police Chief White. He said the suspects left the scene in a vehicle. They are currently trying to determine the make, model and color of the vehicle.

Police told us there were 11 people in the home at the time of the shooting, including eight children.

“It is extremely cowardly to shoot at a house with so many children in it,” said Police Chief White.
