Houghton County man arrested for methamphetamine possession and intent to distribute

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – UPSET detectives concluded an investigation with the arrest of a Houghton County man Monday afternoon.

The man was arrested on three counts of methamphetamine trafficking and one count of possession with intent to traffic.

On Friday, August 16, detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) arrested a 55-year-old Atlantic Mine man in possession of 7 grams of meth. In addition to detectives from the UPSET, officers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post and the Houghton City Police were involved in the investigation.

After the arrest, officers and detectives used a search warrant to search the suspect's home and workshop. Officers found further evidence of drug use and drug paraphernalia.

UPSET was assisted by MSP Calumet Post Officers, Houghton County Sheriff's Deputies, Houghton City Police and Superior Service Towing.

The suspect was booked into the Houghton County Jail. Police say his name will not be released until after his arraignment in 97th District Court.
