Tragic accident claims the lives of two brothers near Selu village, Nagpur

Nagpur, India: Two brothers lost their lives when they were hit by a heavy vehicle near Selu village in Kalmeshwar taluka on Monday evening. The victims, Sandeep Chandrabhan Kande (34) and Praveen Kande (28), both residents of Astikala village, were beheaded in the horrific incident.

According to reports, Sandeep was on his way home from Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, while his brother Praveen had gone to Kalmeshwar to pick him up. The brothers were travelling on a two-wheeler (MH-40/BN-9229) around 7:30 pm when the tragedy occurred. While they were trying to make a U-turn through an illegal opening in the road divider near Selu village, they were hit by an oncoming heavy vehicle. The impact caused the brothers to fall off their two-wheeler and they were crushed under the wheels.

The gruesome nature of the accident, in which the brothers' heads were severed from their torsos and dragged for several metres, shocked the villagers who had gathered at the accident site. Passersby alerted the Nagpur (Rural) police and a team of Kalmeshwar police arrived quickly. The mutilated bodies of the Kande brothers were taken to the rural hospital for postmortem.

The Kalmeshwar police have filed a hit-and-run case against the driver of the heavy vehicle, who fled the scene immediately after the accident. A manhunt has been launched to trace the suspect.

Such hit and run cases are commonplace these days. People with financial security escape from the police and the poor are punished severely within days or weeks of the incident. The Mercedes Ram Jhula accidents in Pune and Nagpur are the perfect example of how money matters more than the police or the court. The victim's family is constantly focused on the court hearing and police investigation and the case becomes a major loophole.
