Big Brother's Cedric Hodges reveals why he cried during his eviction and which house-specific habit he found hard to break

Big BrotherThe Week 4 eviction was a very unthinkable development. On that night, it seemed likely that Makensy Manbeck or Rubina Bernabe would be evicted. What viewers ultimately saw, however, was the house flipping and surprise attempt of Cedric Hodges. The Week 3 Head of Household broke down in tears after his eviction, but as he noted to CinemaBlend, it wasn't because he was hurt or upset about not winning the big prize money. Not only did he tell us the real reason, but he also revealed a habit he's had a hard time breaking.

After streaming Big BrotherWhen I heard the in-depth interview with Cedric after he was kicked out of my Paramount+ subscription, I still had questions about why he was crying. As some might expect, the young Marine had no selfish reason for his tears and explained what was going through his mind as he sat out there with Julie Chen Moonves. It seems the exact reason was much more personal:

I didn't cry because I didn't win, and I didn't cry because I lost $750,000. I cried because you make those connections so quickly. And I felt like I was leaving my 12 best friends back home. It was an emotional goodbye, like being at the airport and having to say goodbye to your mom for a while.

Cedric's feelings are certainly justified. After all, he was suddenly kicked out of the house after spending a whole month there, with 12 people waving goodbye to him. Not only is he out of the house, but he also can't contact most of those people until the game is over. That has to be a bitter pill to swallow, especially for someone who was as friendly as Cedric seemed in the house.

It sounds like everything else is secondary to losing friends, but there are some house-specific habits that Cedric had to give up after leaving the game. I asked him if he had to remember that he could now freely sing licensed songs, but it turns out he was holding on to something else entirely:

Absolutely, just because the Big Brother house gets so deep into your personality. So when you leave, you still have certain tendencies. Even today I asked if I could wear some clothes, but that's neither here nor there. So definitely. It's going to be a part of me for a while.

There are a limited number of activities Big Brother Contestants can perform in the house and sometimes producers even control what they can wear. While it seems like certain college t-shirts are allowed to be worn, most of what the houseguests wear is logo-free and clean. Of course, now that Cedric is out of the game, he no longer has to worry about that rule.

Although he did not win the main prize, Cedric Hodges should have received the modest sum that all Big Brother Houseguests are paid for their time on the show. It's not enough to quit the job or anything, but it seems that some houseguests can live off of it for a while and visit other houseguests or appear on other reality shows. I think there's a chance we might see Cedric on another reality show in the future. Now that he's wiped away his tears, I hope his entertainment career continues and he finds his way onto another series where he doesn't get eliminated.
