Richard Osman shares memories of Steven Spielberg's visit to the “Thursday Murder Club”

In the latest episode of his podcast “The Rest Is Entertainment,” Osman recalled the exciting visit, explaining that Spielberg had an “incredible presence” that thrilled everyone on set that day.

“Sometimes you meet people and you think, 'Oh my God, you're Steven Spielberg,'” he told co-host Marina Hyde. “It was so nice to see that even the other actors were excited to be around him.”

“I'm not going to say what anyone said, but Sir Ben Kingsley spoke to him so wonderfully about Schindler's List and their experience and he was obviously excited about Steven Spielberg. It was just brilliant.”

Osman further explained that all the actors and supporting cast were “so excited” to see Spielberg, who is close friends with Chris Columbus, the director of “Harry Potter” and “The Thursday Murder Club.”

“They love each other,” Osman continued. “It really was a dream and he was adorable. It was a beautiful sunny day and he was everything you could want him to be.”

The former co-host of “Pointless” concluded the discussion by recounting his personal conversation with Spielberg, in which he briefly expressed his gratitude for the filmmaker’s enormous contributions to cinema.

Osman added: “At the very end, I was able to say, 'Thank you for everything you do and for the joy you have brought to the world.' I left it at that. I don't have to say another word because I just said thank you.”

“Considering how much fun he gave us, the stories he told us and the tears we shed because of him, it's nice to be able to stand there, shake his hand and say thank you.”

The Thursday Murder Club features an all-star cast including Kingsley, Dame Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Pierce Brosnan, David Tennant, Tom Ellis, Naomi Ackie, Jonathan Pryce and Richard E. Grant.
