Hopewell men charged with shooting and hit-and-run

HOPEWELL – Police have arrested two people in connection with a recent shooting and hit-and-run accident.

Marlone Ramone Peterson, 47, of Hopewell was charged with discharging a firearm in a public place and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon for shooting a man on Thomas Rolfe Court on Aug. 4. The victim had a gunshot wound to the mouth and was taken to Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a police statement, Peterson was arrested on August 15 and is being held on bail at the Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.

In another case, police also announced the arrest of 26-year-old Garrett Les Horton of Hopewell for a hit-and-run at the intersection of Arlington Road and Winston Churchill Drive on Aug. 15. Police said Horton was driving a dark-colored pickup truck when he struck a moped rider. Witnesses said the truck fled the scene and headed toward Prince George County.

The driver suffered serious injuries and had to be flown by helicopter to a hospital in Richmond.

Horton was arrested the next day. He is charged with hit and run, aggravated assault and driving without a license. He is being held without bail in Riverside.
