Shooting at Bossier High School's Spirit Night leaves one injured

One person was injured in a shooting after a Bossier High School spirit night.

In a press release, Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington and Bossier Schools Superintendent Jason Rowland said a shooting occurred in a parking lot behind the Bossier High School football stadium following a Spirit Night event Monday night.

Anthony Hughes, 43, allegedly got into an altercation with some juveniles during the event, which led to a fight with one of them in the parking lot. The suspect, Marcus Kelly, 32, got out of his car and allegedly shot Hughes once in the torso while Hughes was involved in the fight with the juvenile, who was riding in Kelly's vehicle.

Both Hughes and Kelly jumped into their vehicles and continued driving on Bearkat Drive when Hughes rammed Kelly's vehicle after it was stopped by BSO officers.

Bossier Sheriff School liaison officers responded to the incident and were able to arrest Hughes and Kelly without incident and recover the firearm.

Bossier City Police arrived on scene and assisted BSO in securing the scene.

Bossier City Fire Department transported both Hughes and Kelly to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

After his release from the hospital, Kelly was arrested and taken to Bossier City Maximum Security Prison, where he was arrested on the following warrants:

  • Attempted second degree murder
  • Illegal possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Possession of a firearm on school premises

Kelly's bail was set at $305,000.

After Hughes was released from the hospital, an arrest warrant was issued for serious damage to property.
