Man charged in Fredonia motel shooting | News, Sports, Jobs

A 32-year-old tenant is under arrest for a shooting Monday night at the Econo Lodge in Fredonia

Luis R. Kuilan-Del Hoyo is charged with second-degree assault.

According to a press release from Police Chief David Price, Fredonia police received a 911 call about the shooting around 8:20 p.m.

“When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the leg. A tourniquet had been placed on him to stop the bleeding,” Price wrote. “The victim was treated by Fredonia Fire and EMS and then transported to the trauma unit at Erie County Medical Center for intensive care.”

The boss continued: “According to witnesses, the investigation data was immediately forwarded to Northern District law enforcement. Shortly thereafter, a suspicious vehicle with three occupants was found nearby. Fredonia Police Department members worked on the investigation until the early hours of the morning.”

The investigation led to the arrest of Kulian-Del Hoyo. He was taken to the Central Prosecution Service and detained in Mayville pending arraignment.

“The investigation is ongoing, further charges are pending,” Price stated.

Fredonia Police were assisted by the Dunkirk Police Department, New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office (including the Sheriff's Canine Unit), and the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office.

“Anyone with further information regarding this investigation should contact the Fredonia Police Department at 716-679-1531,” Price said.

The Fredonia shooting was the fifth in five days. One of those occurred last Wednesday night in Dunkirk and three more shootings occurred in Jamestown on Friday.
