Killing of Upper Merion teacher and his children to be made into Netflix series

UPPER MERION, PA — The infamous murder of English teacher Susan Reinert and her two children at Upper Merion High School in the 1970s is set to be dramatized in an upcoming thriller series on Netflix, according to a report from Deadline and information provided to IMDB.

The series’ script was written by Andrew Reinart, the mind behind the Ted Kaczynski series “Manhunt.”

IMDB describes the show as a limited miniseries.

“June 25, 1979: Susan Reinert, an English teacher, was brutally murdered in Philadelphia's affluent Main Line neighborhood,” the show's description reads. “Her body was found in a car trunk. Her children remained missing, sparking a public outcry and exposing flaws in the justice system.”

Upper Merion High School's then-principal Jay Smith was sentenced to death in 1986 for the murder of Reinert and her children. However, new evidence ultimately led to the conviction being overturned in 1992.
