Woman arrested after suspected theft early Tuesday in downtown Topeka

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – A woman is behind bars following an alleged theft reported early Tuesday in downtown Topeka, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday when Topeka police officers were flagged down by a person near SW 18th Street and Topeka Boulevard.

The person told police that someone with a gun had threatened them and that their property had been stolen.

According to police, the two people knew each other.

Officers later located the suspect, identified as Stacy Marie Armstrong, 43, of Topeka, near SE 15th and Adams Street and took her into custody.

As a result of the investigation, Armstrong was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and theft.
