Minister warns hostels after tragic deaths in Anakapalli

VICHYANKA: Following the death of three children who ate stale food at a hostel in the Anakapalli district, British Columbia's Social Welfare Minister S. Savita urged officials and hostel managers across the state to be vigilant, warning of strict action against those who neglect their duties.

Savita chaired a meeting with officials of the British Columbia Department of Social Welfare at the Velagapudi Secretariat on Tuesday. The focus of the meeting was on ensuring the health and well-being of students in hostels and gurukuls.

She directed officials and guards to completely ban bringing food from outside the hostel and prevent students from leaving the premises. The minister stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness, providing clean drinking water and serving nutritious meals to inmates that comply with the government's menu. She also banned serving stale or spoiled food to students.

Savita asked the hostel wardens to stay on campus at night and ordered that district officials conduct regular inspections. BC Social Welfare Department Director Mallikarjuna, BC Gurukul Secretary Krishna Mohan and others were present.
