Investigators say Canales-Kobbeman was traveling west when she collided with an eastbound driver, a 53-year-old woman from Winnebago. Family says she was returning home from work at the time of the accident.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Department, bystanders pulled Canales-Kobbeman from the vehicle after it caught fire. Firefighters had to extricate the other woman from her vehicle.

Canales-Kobbeman's family says she needs multiple surgeries and faces a long and painful recovery. They have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $15,000 to pay for medical expenses and support her family during her recovery.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, but officials believe the severe weather in the region may have played a role.
