Wooden Award odds released for 2024-25 season

The 2024-25 college basketball season is still a few months away, but it's never too early to start looking ahead to next year. The Wooden Award will be given to the best college basketball player in the country next season, and there are several interesting candidates.

BetOnline has announced its favorites for next year's Wooden Award, according to Conor O'Neill, and the site has a newcomer at the top in Cooper Flagg from dukeBehind him are several experienced players who have already achieved great things in college basketball.

No matter who wins the Wooden Award this year, there will be a new winner after the previous Purdue star Zach Edney has taken home the honor in each of the last two seasons. Here are the players with the best odds according to BetOnline:

Duke freshman Cooper Flagg, 4-1

Cooper Flagg is anything but a typical rookie, which is why the 17-year-old has the best chance of winning the Wooden Award next year. How good is Flagg really? He played against Team USA before the 2024 Olympics and more than held his own against several of the NBA's top players.

Flagg was the best player in the country for the class of 2024, according to On3 Industry Rankings. He is expected to last at the college level after just one season, and NBA teams are already trying to position themselves to draft him.

Kansas senior Hunter Dickinson, 5-1

Former Michigan star Hunter Dickinson scored in his first season at Kansasaveraging 17.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Dickinson is entering his fifth college basketball season thanks to his COVID year in 2020-21.

Dickinson was named an All-American at both Michigan and Kansas and enters his final year of college basketball with over 2,200 points and 1,100 rebounds. It will be interesting to see if he can add the Wooden Award to his already impressive resume.

RJ Davis, senior from North Carolina, 6-1

North Carolina has had several talented guards over the years, with Robert J. Davis is the last. The widely recognized first-team All-American is coming off his best season in 2023-24, having averaged 21.2 points per game.

After Caleb Love transferred to ArizonaDavis thrived in the Tar Heels' starring role. He is North Carolina's fifth-leading scorer all-time and has a chance to add even more trophies to his trophy case this year, including possibly a Wooden Award.

Alabama senior Mark Sears, 8-1

Another guard who can score a lot of goals is Alabama star Mark Sears. The Ohio The transfer led Alabama to the Final Four last season, averaging a career-high 21.5 points per game.

The left-hander shot an impressive 50.8 percent of his shots from the field and 43.6 percent of his 3-pointers last season and is the best player on the Alabama team that is expected to compete for the national title this season.

Kansas junior AJ Storr, 16-1

Wisconsin transfer AJ Storr should form a true one-two at Kansas with Hunter Dickinson, another Wooden Award candidate. Storr is now at his third school after beginning his career at St. John's.

The All-Big Ten player considered turning pro after last season, but decided to transfer to Kansas instead. Storr was Wisconsin's leading scorer last year, averaging 16.8 points per game. The versatile guard can score in a variety of ways.

LJ Cryer shone in his first season at Houston after changing from BaylorThe 6-foot-1 guard was named All-Big 12 last season after leading the Cougars with 15.5 points per game.

With Jamal Shead Cryer should have even more opportunities to make his mark this season as he looks to take the Cougars to the Final Four after they suffered a heartbreaking loss to Duke in the Sweet 16 last year.

Arkansas senior Johnell Davis, 28-1

Former Florida Atlantic star Danielle Davis transferred to Arkansas to play as first-year head coach this offseason John Calipari. Davis was the 2023-24 AAC Co-Player of the Year after averaging 18.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Davis has more than proven he can play at the highest level, as he was instrumental in helping FAU reach the Final Four in 2023. It will be interesting to see how he plays under Calipari and if he can get into the discussion for the Wooden Award winner.

Auburn junior Johni Broome, 33-1

Auburn American through and through John Broome was one of the best players in the SEC last season, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Broome is a versatile big who scores primarily at the basket, but can also go outside and sink a jumper.

Broome considered turning pro after last season, but decided to return for his junior year after the Tigers suffered a losing streak. Yale in the first round of the NCAA tournament. He hopes to lead Auburn to the Final Four this season and perhaps get into the conversation for the Wooden Award.

Gonzaga senior Khalif Battle, 33-1

Khalif Battle is now at his fourth school and is starting his sixth season in college basketball. The 1.95 m tall guard began his career at butlerplayed one season there before spending three years with temple. He then moved to Arkansas before the 2023-24 season and is now with Gonzaga.

Battle can quickly polish the stats, as he averaged 14.8 points in just 24.7 minutes per game last season. Perhaps he will be under Mark Few at Gonzaga and can join the conversation about the Wooden Award.

Finally, another newcomer closes the top 10 best chances for the Wooden Award in Baylor guard VJ EdgecombeThe Bahamian native was ranked as the fourth-best player in the country in the class of 2024 according to the On3 industry rankings.

Edgecombe was the Gatorade Player of the Year in each of his last two seasons in New York and is expected to excel at the college level as well.
