DOC notifies law enforcement and public of release of state prison offender

RAPID CITY, SD (Dakota News Now) – The South Dakota Department of Corrections is informing law enforcement and the public of the recent release of a state offender whose assessments indicate a “high risk of re-offending.”

Cory Yellow Boy, 34, has served his entire prison sentence for eluding police, failing to provide the address of a sex offender and possession of a controlled substance.

Yellow Boy was released from prison to the Rapid City area on August 15.

“Due to his criminal history and his facility's assessments indicating a high risk of re-offending, I am notifying law enforcement and the public of this offender's release from prison,” said Attorney General Kellie Wasko.

This notification is in addition to the letters currently sent to law enforcement each month and the notices delivered to the Criminal Investigation Division. Since 2011, the Department of Corrections has issued a total of 14 public notifications of impending releases of high-risk offenders.
