Funny reaction from coach Jim Harbaugh to Justin Herbert's return and injury update

On August 19, Los Angeles Chargers starting quarterback Justin Herbert returned to practice for the first time since his injury on July 31. Herbert was diagnosed with a plantar fascia injury in his right foot and has been wearing a walking stick for the past two weeks.

Due to his injury, the former Oregon Duck did not play in the Chargers' first two preseason games. Backup quarterbacks Easton Stick and Luis Perez both played in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams on August 17. The team waived quarterback Max Duggan after he was drafted in the final round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Chargers coach John Harbaugh is certainly pleased about the return of his regular player.

“I felt like there must be music playing,” Harbaugh said. “I thought I heard music. Maybe angel voices. It was a great feeling. It looked great, with a capital G. No power drop, pinpoint precision, really good.”

During practice, Herbert received reps in 7-on-7 situations and completed 11 of 12 passes, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Herbert did not participate in any full-team sessions as his training will be stepped up early in the season.

Harbaugh and the rest of the team expect Herbert to start the season opener against the division rival Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 8. Herbert is entering his fifth season in the NFL and his first with Harbaugh. Expectations for Herbert are high.

In 2023, the former Oregon star played in 13 of 17 games and threw for 3,134 yards and 20 touchdowns. His quarterback rating for the season was 5th.
