CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A Charleston man was found guilty Tuesday of violent crimes involving a firearm in connection with the attempted murder of a Kanawha County sheriff's deputy earlier this year.

The Kanawha County District Attorney's Office said 43-year-old Nathan Allan Oxley was convicted of attempted murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The incident occurred on February 29, when a deputy responded to a disturbance call in Galena and the suspect drove away toward Sissonville.

An officer who got out of his patrol car was shot in the hand.

Oxley's sentencing is scheduled for October 28. He faces a prison sentence of between 11 and 45 years.
