LITTLETON, CO (KVRR/FOX9) — Former Minneapolis police officer Thomas Lane, who was convicted for his role in the 2020 killing of George Floyd, has been released from prison.

Lane has served his prison sentences at the state and federal levels.

It was only his fourth day on the job when he held Floyd's legs while former police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck.

A federal jury found Lane guilty of depriving Floyd of his civil rights and sentenced him to two and a half years in Englewood Federal Prison in Littleton, Colorado.

At the same time, he was serving his three-year prison sentence for aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

He still has to serve one year on probation.

Two other former officials involved, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, are scheduled to be released in April.

Chauvin is not expected to be released from prison until 2038.
