Son of Mike Lynch's tragically deceased co-defendant vows to finish his run after death while jogging

The son of co-defendant Mike Lynch in a US fraud trial has vowed to complete the route in which his father died as a tribute to him.

Stephen Chamberlain, 52, died after being hit by a car while jogging in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning.

The tragedy came just two days before Mr Lynch and five others were reported missing after the luxury superyacht Bayesian sank in a violent storm off the coast of Sicily.

Mr. Chamberlain served as a former vice president of finance at Mr. Lynch's company, Autonomy.

He was charged with the same fraud and conspiracy as his former boss. He was accused of trying to inflate the value of Autonomy, then the UK's largest software company, before it was sold.

Both men were acquitted of all 15 charges by a jury in San Francisco in June.

According to data from his Strava account, Mr Chamberlain had run 10 kilometres on a morning jog when he was struck by the vehicle on Newmarket Road in the village of Stretham.

Cambridgeshire Police said the 49-year-old driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident and was assisting with the investigation.

On Tuesday, Mr Chamberlain's son Teddy urged well-wishers to complete the run in his memory.

He wrote on Strava: “We are planning to do this run for Dad. If any of you would like to pay tribute to him and run with us, I will keep you updated. I am sure we will do a post with the day and time at a later date. He was such an incredible man and the pain we are feeling is unimaginable.”

In a statement, Mr Chamberlain's family said he was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend.

“He was an amazing human being whose sole purpose in life was to help others in any way he could,” they said.

“He left a lasting impression on all who were privileged to know him. He will be sorely missed, but will remain forever in the hearts of his loved ones.”

Meanwhile, rescue workers in Sicily continued to search for Mr Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah on Tuesday.

Bayesian was anchored about half a mile off the coast of Porticello when it sank at around 5 a.m. local time on Monday as a storm struck the area.

Fifteen of the 22 passengers and crew on board – including Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares – were able to escape into a lifeboat.

Jonathan Bloomer, CEO of Morgan Stanley International Bank, and his wife, as well as Chris Morvillo, lawyer at Clifford Chance, are also confirmed missing. Morvillo's wife is also missing, the head of Sicilian civil protection said.
