What we learned from Anthony Edwards

Fresh off his return to the U.S. after winning gold at the Paris Olympics, 23-year-old Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards sat down with Kevin Durant and Jalen Rose onstage at the Javits Center in New York City for a 30-minute chat at Fanatics Fest last weekend. Here's what we learned from Edwards…

“I wouldn't say put your phone down. If you know what you want to be, you just go for it,” Edwards said. “At the end of the day, you have your phone, so if you know what you want to do, you just go for it. When I turned 15, I knew I wanted to be an NBA player, and I just pursued it. And it happened.”

“After the gold medal – I won’t lie – I and [Durant] a – what do you call it? – drug test,” said Edwards. “We couldn’t even celebrate in the locker room because me, him and [Steph Curry] had to do some kind of drug test or something.”

“We're just going to try to get further this year. We're going to try to be a little better during the regular season because we had a drop off in performance after KAT's injury. We took a few steps back, but this year we're going to treat training camp like it's the real season. We're going to be ready to go. I'm going to be there a little early and try to set the tone. Last year we made it to the Western Conference Finals, so that's what we expect. We can't come out and get sent home in the first round because it's all about the play-in round, so we have to be ready to go.”

“I'm not going to lie, I felt a little bad,” Edwards said. “Just because he's my favorite player of all time. I didn't want to send him home like that. You know what I mean? It happened, man. I felt bad. I felt bad.”
