Miami Gardens mother arrested after video apparently shows her abusing her 3-year-old daughter

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida. – A Miami Gardens woman accused of hitting her 3-year-old daughter with a coat hanger in an incident captured on video now faces criminal charges.

According to online records, 25-year-old Aaliyah Shantrelle Herring was arrested Monday on child abuse and neglect charges.

The video was recorded by a man whom the woman identified as the child's father.

In the video, the mother is seen walking towards her daughter, seemingly beside herself with anger and holding a coat hanger, while her daughter's crying can be heard in the background.

“You want to sit down and lie down and [expletive] Baby and not be able to take care of it after you know my [expletive] Health condition?” In the video you can hear the mother asking the father.

Miami Gardens police said the video shows the woman “striking a small child multiple times.” A sergeant with the department told Local 10 News, “It was very, very difficult for us to watch.”

According to police, she was subject to the Baker Act.

According to a police report, Herring claimed during a police interview on Monday that she punished her child for “throwing a remote control at her.”

Herring was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade and was being held on $7,500 bail as of Tuesday afternoon.
