Clemson Football hears Georgia's fight song before Week 1 game

CLEMSON – Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney has begun preparing for the game against No. 1 Georgia, including what blared from the speakers at the Tigers' practice on Tuesday.

Clemson, No. 14 in the AP and U.S. LBM coaches' preseason poll, played the Bulldogs' fight song, “Glory, Glory,” during the final portion of practice, even with crowd noise in the background, and played on a loop for nearly 20 minutes.

Tigers linebacker Barrett Carter, a Georgia native, said the Bulldogs' fight song was played during special teams practice.

“It will be good for us to get a feel for it because that's something they do over there, but it shouldn't affect the way we play,” Carter said.

The Tigers will face Georgia on August 31 (12:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The stadium is expected to be filled mostly with Bulldogs fans. Clemson is a two-point underdog.

“I know we're going to hear that a lot, so we're preparing for it,” said backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina.

This is the first of five scheduled meetings between Clemson and Georgia over the next 10 years. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 10-3 in their last meeting in 2021 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Georgia has since won two national championships.

Clemson is looking to rebound after a poor 2023 season that saw it finish with a 9-4 record and miss the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive year. Georgia is looking to make it back to the CFP after missing out last year when it lost to Alabama in the SEC championship game, its only loss of the season.
