Mumbai: A party of the five friends in Panvel went awry after one of them stabbed a group member named Vijay Kalse to death. All four of them rushed Kalse to the district hospital in Panvel, where he was declared brought dead. When the four friends realized that what had happened amounted to murder, they fled the hospital. The hospital authorities alerted the police, and the hunt for the accused began.

The incident took place on Sunday night after Kalse along with Ravi Mewati, Rahul Mewati, Tarun Valmiki and another friend were partying at Rahul's residence in Usarli village in PAnvel taluka. According to police, all five friends live in different places and had gathered at one place to party. “They were all under the heavy influence of alcohol when a fight broke out between deceased Kalse and Rave Mewati. During the fight, Kalse hit Mewati which made Mewati angry and he then took a knife and stabbed Kalse in the chest,” said senior police inspector Nitin Thackeray of PAnvel City police station.

After Kalse collapsed, the friends called the ambulance from Panvel Sub District Hospital and told the ambulance driver that Kalse had fallen unconscious and took her to the hospital. The friends also accompanied the ambulance. After the doctor confirmed Kalse's death, the friends fled and the hospital alerted the police.

Since there was no evidence of the deceased and the accused, the ambulance driver became the complainant and the police took up the case on Monday and began their investigation from the place from where the ambulance driver had picked them up. The police received a tip-off about Ravi Mewati, who was hiding at a relative's house in Kamothe and was arrested. “We have arrested the man who stabbed. However, a complaint has been filed against all four and we are investigating the case further,” Thackeray said.
