Box Elder continues to have low pressure after water main burst

BOX ELDER, SD (KOTA) – Over the weekend of August 18, Box Elder experienced a massive break in a 16-inch-thick water main connecting two of the city’s water tanks.

Construction crews worked throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning to repair and restore the system. Despite the crews' quick response, the incident resulted in the loss of nearly 3,250,000 litres of water in just one hour.

During the incident, many residents and property owners were experiencing low water pressure. Although the water main is now reportedly back in service, the city said residents may continue to experience low water pressure while the system recovers from the significant water loss.
