Rashida Jones talks about her famous father, music producer Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones is a music legend. He started out as a jazz musician and became one of the best music producers of all time. Of course, his children want to follow in his footsteps, as they grew up with a very musical father. Jones has seven children in total and the most famous is probably the actress Rashida Jones, who consciously decided against a career in music, even though she loved it.

She explained: “My dad is a musical genius. That's the last thing I want to do, try to do it. But I love it. I have a deep yearning for music and I just never feel like I'm good enough for it. Like I'll never be good enough for it, so I just don't do it.”

Although she never pursued a career in music, that doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy it. Rashida actually sang background on the band Maroon 5's first two records. She added, “I love it so much and I kind of sing for fun. I've written for fun and I've sung background on some albums and stuff… I can write [music]my reading ability is limited.” However, she followed in the footsteps of her mother, the actress Peggy Lipton. Lipton is best known for Mod Squad And Twin Peaks.

These days, her father is enjoying a break at the age of 91. A few years ago, Rashida wanted to use her talents to honor her famous father and wrote and directed a documentary called QuincyShe recently said of the documentary, “He's so well documented, he's so successful, it's almost impossible to spend time telling his personality. You have to cover so much, just what he contributed to the world and culture. I wanted to make something that felt like it captured his personality, because nothing ever did… My father is a beast and he cheated death so many times. Ninety-one and still going strong.”

A few years after the documentary was released, Jones decided to share his own message with the world with his book called 12 notes on life and creativity. The book is designed to help fans express themselves with creativity and art, including setting goals and creating a creative process. He combined his tips with stories from his own life and career.
