Officials: Three Florida residents arrested after acid attack on Gloucester County woman

Three Florida residents were arrested in connection with the chemical burn of a woman in Gloucester County in July.

The incident occurred July 26 in the Forest Hills section of Monroe Township, officials said.

The 42-year-old victim had returned home from work and was parked in his driveway when a woman approached her and poured the liquid contents of a cup on her. The suspect then fled the scene in a silver or gray vehicle.

The liquid in the cup caused the victim to suffer chemical burns to 35 percent of her body. She was flown by helicopter to a burn center and remains in the hospital. Investigators determined that the liquid used was a highly corrosive acid.

Police and Gloucester County District Attorney's Office officials identified the vehicle as a rental car from Florida. They then located two suspects, 38-year-old Betty Jo Lane and 39-year-old Jmarr McNeil of Jacksonville, Florida, who drove the rental car to New Jersey to carry out the attack.

Investigators found that the two suspects were paid by 49-year-old William DiBernardino of Boynton Beach, Florida, who had previously had a relationship with the victim.

The suspects were arrested in Florida and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted first-degree murder, and other related charges. They are being held in Florida and all three have waived extradition.
