Man and woman arrested for double murder in Oakland

OAKLAND – A man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a woman was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting in a recent shooting that left four people dead and two injured, authorities said.

A 34-year-old man was booked into the Santa Rita jail on Monday on charges of murder, attempted murder and weapons possession. Prosecutors have not yet filed charges against him. He cannot be released from jail on bail, but if no charges are filed by Thursday, he will be released.

A 33-year-old woman was also arrested for accessory after the fact, jail records show. Her bail was set at $100,000 and prosecutors have not yet charged her either. Police are expected to turn the case over to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office soon.

The two were identified as suspects in connection with an Aug. 17 shooting involving four people outside an East Oakland apartment complex in the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue. The two deceased victims have not yet been publicly identified because their families have not yet been notified, police said.

The two survivors are still in critical condition in hospital, police said.

Authorities have not disclosed how they identified the suspects or the exact motive, but a police press release said it all started with a “verbal altercation” that led to one person opening fire on a group of people.

The shooter then fled in a vehicle, police said.
