AUTAUGA COUNTY, Alabama (WSFA) – A man who sexually abused a child in Autauga County will go to prison, according to 19th Judicial District Attorney CJ Robinson.

Robinson posted on social media that 45-year-old Byron Mitchell Anderson was found guilty by a jury last month on 12 counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

The district attorney said Anderson was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Amanda Baxley to a total sentence of 390 years in prison.

Anderson was arrested in 2021 after the victim told her mother what happened. Robinson said when the mother confronted Anderson in a recorded phone call, he confessed to the crime. She then contacted the Autauga County Sheriff's Office.

Robinson wrote on social media: “I am very proud of this young woman's courage in speaking out. She is a hero and thanks to her, another sex offender is off the streets! This is another case where great teamwork and communication between different agencies has resulted in another conviction and a sentence that protects us all.”
