Shooting early Sunday morning leaves two injured

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) – The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) is investigating a shooting that left two people injured.

On Sunday, August 18, around 4 a.m., several people called 911 to report hearing gunshots outside a residence in the 1300 block of Willow Way.

According to police, when officers arrived, they found two people shot. Officers immediately attempted to assist the victims until South Georgia Medical Center EMS and VPD firefighters arrived.

Officers attempted to render aid to a 15-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds to his legs and a 43-year-old man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Other officers heard additional gunshots in the area and, with assistance from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, attempted to locate the source of the gunshots.

Emergency services took both victims to SGMC. The 15-year-old was treated and released. The 43-year-old is still in the medical center and is in stable condition, according to police.

Detectives and forensic investigators were immediately on site to investigate the incident.

According to police, investigators found that there was a large gathering of adults, teenagers and children in the apartment. An altercation occurred in the apartment during which firearms were drawn and shots were fired.

The detectives are still busy gathering evidence and will follow up on all leads from possible witnesses.

According to VPD, the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
