On August 19, 2024, Turez L. Creek, 35, of Lexington Park, was arrested following an incident in Great Mills, Maryland and charged with multiple misdemeanors. The charges include malicious damage to property, racketeering and vagrancy, obstruction and hindrance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and second-degree escape.

According to court documents, the incident began at approximately 3:27 a.m. when Deputy A. Ocasio of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of possible gunshots near a Papa John's restaurant on Great Mills Road. A complainant reported hearing at least three loud noises after seeing two people arguing behind the restaurant. When Deputy Ocasio arrived, he found Creek lying face down on wet grass. He was wearing black and gray gloves, a mask covering his face, head and neck, a red jacket, blue jeans and dirty white shoes. Creek, who later identified himself, refused medical attention and stated multiple times that he was “drunk and homeless.”

During the investigation, Deputy Ocasio spotted a blue Infiniti sedan nearby with fresh damage. The owner of the vehicle confirmed by phone and later in person that the damage was new. The damage included marks on the front driver's door that appeared to match the red bricks found broken on the ground next to the vehicle. Dust the color of the bricks was noted on the car and on the gloves Creek was wearing.

When officers attempted to confirm Creek's identity, he repeatedly refused to cooperate, thus hindering the investigation. As a result, he was arrested for obstruction and interference. A search of Creek following his arrest found drug paraphernalia, which he admitted to using to smoke “K2.” Creek was then taken to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for other medical issues. After his release, while being taken to St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Creek attempted to escape custody by breaking into a run and attempting to run. Corporal J. Smith, who was accompanying him, was able to prevent his escape. Creek later claimed he “stumbled,” but surveillance footage from the facility showed him attempting to flee.

Creek is accused of the following:

  1. Malicious damage to property (value over $1,000) – for allegedly damaging the vehicle.
  2. Villain and vagabond – because they were allegedly in the vehicle with the intention of committing a theft.
  3. Obstruction and hindrance – for refusing to cooperate with officers during the investigation.
  4. Possession of drug paraphernalia – for possession of a smoking device for inhaling a controlled dangerous substance.
  5. Second degree escape – for attempting to escape from police custody.

Creek is currently being held without bail. A bail review hearing was held on August 20, 2024, where the decision to hold him without bail was affirmed.
