Lee County woman found not guilty of murder due to insanity

Three and a half years after a man was murdered in Lee County, a judge ruled the suspect not guilty by reason of insanity.

On March 27, 2021, the body of 35-year-old Christopher Michael Gonzales was found near County Road 306 in Blue, Texas.

44-year-old Jennifer Redden Kramer, a resident of Blue, has been charged with his murder.

Monica Gonzales, Christopher's sister, says the two met in Austin.

“He was standing on the side of the road trying to make money on the corner of 290 and Cameron Road in Austin. [Jennifer] She approached him and offered him money. Instead of taking the money she had, which was about $200 or $300, he asked her if there was any work he could do for her to earn the money. That's how it all started. There was going to be some kind of business venture and landscaping that she was helping him with,” she said.

On the morning of his death, a fight broke out in Austin.

“I think whatever they were arguing about, it was just that my brother was done with the relationship, the business relationship, the personal relationship, whatever they had. I think he wanted to cut off contact with her and she didn't want that,” Monica said.

Later that night, the two drove back toward Lee County and he fell asleep.

According to court documents, Kramer said she had already “seen his death” and that she stabbed him with a machete and dragged him out of the car. The report mentions “32 stab wounds.” She told investigators she “learned how to stab someone from the movie Pulp Fiction.”

I don't think she was crazy. I think she should have been put in prison for life without parole. I think she knew what she was doing. I think it was very premeditated. I think that because she is so evil, she should be behind bars so she doesn't hurt another family like ours that was hurt,” Monica said.

“I don't think she was crazy. I saw her in person. My daughter will no longer be able to have her father walk her down the aisle and be there for her and protect her like he should be. She took that away from us,” said Diana Arnold, the mother of Christopher's youngest daughter.

After several hearings and psychiatric examinations over the past three years, the judge ruled on Tuesday that Jennifer was not guilty by reason of insanity.

Christopher's family wants people to remember him as a positive person who left us far too soon.

“It hurts all of us a lot… What hurts me the most is seeing what my dad is going through,” said Elizabeth Anguiano, Christopher's sister. “To end his life at 35 just seems so unfair. She can go anytime. She doesn't deserve to enjoy birthdays. She doesn't deserve to enjoy holidays… to enjoy her dad. I mean, my brother didn't get that. I just don't think it's right that she can go and live a normal life and my brother is gone. It doesn't matter what we do. We'll never get him back.”

“I want the world to know that he was a good person. He was a good father, a good brother, a good son. He did his best to make the world a better place,” Moncia said.

According to court documents, Kramer's treatment options at North Texas State Hospital are being evaluated.
