Doug Emhoff says Kamala Harris encouraged him to fight anti-Semitism

In his address to the Democratic Party Convention on Tuesday evening, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff referred to his Jewish faith and to Vice President Kamala Harris' commitment to her Jewish blended family.

The introductory video, narrated by his son Cole, showed images of Emhoff's involvement and connection to the Jewish community.

Emhoff began by describing his childhood, which involved riding his bike to Hebrew school, and then described faith in his marriage to Harris.

“Kamala has made me more connected to my faith, even though it is not the same as hers,” Emhoff said.

Emhoff said Harris accompanies him to synagogue services on high holidays, and he goes to church with her on Easter.

He said he gets to enjoy her mother's chili recipe on Christmas and that Harris “cooks an excellent brisket for Passover,” which, he joked, reminded him of his grandmother's apartment in Brooklyn.

Support the fight against anti-Semitism and hatred

He now devoted himself to anti-Semitism, a cause he represents as second gentleman.

“Kamala has fought against anti-Semitism and all forms of hate her entire career,” he said. “She is the one who encouraged me as the second gentleman to take up this fight that is so dear to my heart.”

In his remarks, Emhoff made no reference to Israel or the hostages.
