6 people shot, 1 fatally, in Back of the Yards shooting – NBC Chicago

According to authorities, one man was killed and five others injured in a shooting in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood on Tuesday evening.

According to police, officers responded to calls reporting shots fired in the 5100 block of South Ashland Avenue shortly after 7:15 p.m. and encountered several gunshot victims upon arrival.

According to authorities, witnesses reported to police that two unknown armed men opened fire on a group of five people who were outdoors at the above-mentioned location.

In addition to the five people standing outside, another man was injured who was in a vehicle passing by the scene at the time of the shooting.

  • A 46-year-old man was struck in the upper body and taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  • A 51-year-old man was hit in the left foot and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
  • A 37-year-old man was struck multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
  • A 44-year-old man was hit in the left leg and foot and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
  • A 46-year-old man was hit in the left foot and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
  • A 39-year-old man who was driving past the scene when he was struck suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody and the shooting is being investigated by Area One detectives.
