Suspect hospitalized after shootout with CHP officers and deputy sheriff in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A man was hospitalized following a shooting Tuesday afternoon involving California Highway Patrol officers and a Fresno County sheriff's deputy.

The shooting occurred around 2:55 p.m. outside a home in the area of ​​Grant Avenue and Seventh Street.

According to Fresno police, the CHP's auto theft squad was investigating a stolen truck when they found a man sitting in the driver's seat.

When officers tried to speak to the man, he put his car in reverse and rammed two of their unmarked patrol cars.

According to officials, two CHP officers and a deputy sheriff opened fire on the man, hitting him in the upper body.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was last reported to be in critical condition.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Investigators are currently working to obtain a search warrant for the home where the shooting occurred.
