Rob Lowe's son John Owen says he suffered a “nervous breakdown” because of working with his famous father

Rob Lowe's son, John Owen Lowe, once wished that the apple would fall further from the tree. Well, sort of.

The acting icon's son is the co-star and co-creator of the popular Netflix comedy series “Unstable,” but spoke about their father-son relationship with Andy Cohen on Thursday's episode of SiriusXM radio show “Andy Cohen Live.”

“It's basically the same (as our dynamic in real life),” the actor's son said of the Netflix series, which returns Aug. 1. “I like to give my dad a hard time. And people found that entertaining, which surprised me. And I went up to him and said, 'Hey, would you let me make fun of you on TV in front of the whole nation?'”

The main thing: Rob Lowe gets a “embarrassing amount” of sleep

John Owen Lowe told Cohen that he suffered “a real little nervous breakdown” while working on set with his father during the first two weeks of filming “Unstable.”

“I left the set and went to my trailer… I was trying to develop my own personality and get some distance from him, and now I'm his co-star,” the second-generation star told the Bravo heavyweight. “My face is in a photo next to his, and I'm going to do press with him. It was like all these realizations became clear to me.”

He even called his representatives, but later developed a more positive attitude, “which is to say, you should be grateful that you can do this for a number of reasons. Namely, you know, my dad is not going to be around forever. It's going to be great that we get to experience this together, and secondly, it's hard working in the entertainment industry.”

The father-son duo delighted fans in March when 28-year-old John Owen Lowe pranked his father in an Instagram post to celebrate the “Parks and Recreation” star’s birthday on Sunday.

“If you all would be so kind as to send my dad some birthday wishes… HE'S SIXTY TODAY!!!! I love you forever dad,” John Owen wrote in the caption.

The photo he shared shows himself with his mother Sheryl Berkoff and older brother Matthew Lowe. On the far left, where you would expect to see Rob Lowe, you can see the face of John Stamos, also 60 years old.
